23 of the Most Creative Pregnancy Reveal Ideas

After dodging countless questions of: “When will you two have a baby?”, a couple of period scares (“Oh my God, could it be?? Oh no, I just forgot how to count!”) and even a trip to Paris (it just HAD to happen there, right? Spoiler: No), you finally have in your hand the confirmation that you will become a parent. Screams and tears of joy all around! But now comes the hardest part – how can you possibly break the news in a funny and memorable way? After all, it’s a big announcement and it deserves a reveal of the same magnitude. If you plan to become pregnant or you are already pregnant and you’re the only one who knows, here are 23 pregnancy reveal ideas to help you find some inspiration.

1) YOU LITERALLY HAVE A BUN IN YOUR OVEN

An innocent family dinner proves to be something more when you invite everyone to the kitchen and ask them to open the oven and check on that “turkey”. Well, surprise surprise, there is a bun in the oven. A bun. Literally. Expect several family members to look puzzled at it – probably grandma might need some extra explanation. But once they figure it out, loud screams and hugs will insure.

2) TO-BE MUGS

If you are not doing this during festivities, it might look suspicious, but ah, who cares? Let’s pretend I suddenly remembered I loved all my relatives and I wanted to cherish all with a small gift. Custom mugs are cute and practical. Have ‘grandma-to-be’, ‘grandfather-to-be’, ‘aunt-to-be’, etc. written on them and send them out. They won’t stop gushing about them…and the new family member, of course.

3) HAVE DATE OF BIRTH PHOTO SESSION

This is something that works regardless if you already have children or not. Take individual pictures of your family holding signs with the year they were born or write the birth dates on the sole of the shoes. Then, take a picture where you are alongside your partner, holding a sign with the year when the due date is or adding an extra pair of tiny shoes.

4) GUARD DOG

If you have a dog, place a sign that says: “Guard dog on duty, starting XX”, where XX is of course the due date. Making your pet part of the announcement is beyond adorable.

5) BABY DISCOUNT

Tell your partner that you just received a coupon with a discount at your favorite store. Said coupon is actually a photoshopped image that says: BABY DISCOUNT – AVAILABLE XX. Can we go shopping like, now?

6) A LITTLE BIT OF POP CULTURE

This announcement works if you are already a parent. Create a shirt for your child/children that says: “Oops, they did it again!”. If you want to go subtle, leave it like that, but if you want to be a little bit more obvious, instead of the exclamation point, put a pacifier vertically. Whoever notices the message on the shirt first will brag endlessly about it.

7) TREASURE

You can never go wrong making your family feel like they are in a Sherlock Holmes series. This works very well if it’s organized during a holiday like Easter or Christmas. Call everyone over to your place and have them play a game where they have to discover clues which all together formed the word PREGNANT. Of course some will excitedly figure out the announcement before finding all the letters, but it will be adorable to see them slowly making sense of the purpose of the game. Such a scavenger hunt also works very well for gender reveal parties.

8) WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

An emotional way to break the news to your parents is by giving them children’s books with a message on the inside that says: “Dear grandma and grandpa, please read this to us in 9 months”. And while you probably haven’t read a children’s book in ages, don’t take the random book route choosing something, because things might get awkward. Hilariously awkward, but still awkward.

9) SAVE THE DATE

When you’ve been in a relationship for a while and people keep nagging you about getting married, it’s a great idea to prank them by actually giving them something more meaningful. Send out ‘Save the date’ invitations where instead of the supposed date, you actually have your due date written and inside, you have the ultrasound picture with the message: WEDDING POSTPONED.

10) SAY ‘PREGNANT!’

There is hardly anything better than revealing a pregnancy and capturing the moment forever. If you are present at a party with your whole family, of course you’ll have to take the inevitable group photo. As the photographer lines everyone up, he asks you to say ‘Cheese!’, which you do. But he needs to take a second picture – you know, just in case. ‘Cheese!’ again. Wait, just one more shot! At this point, everyone is starting to feel annoyed. Then, all of a sudden: Say ‘Pregnant!’. Their reaction? Priceless.

11) THIS IS HALLOWEEN

Finding the right Halloween costume is always a troublesome task, because it has to be both somewhat unique and current. Come on, who does still dress like a pirate? But if you are pregnant, it’s not that difficult. Just go to the party wearing a box which looks like an oven and possibly wear a shirt which has a bun placed right at the belly button. A definite show stopper!

12) ARE YOU PREGNANT YET?

Come on, you know them! Those relatives who constantly ask you if you are pregnant whenever they see you. Are you pregnant? No. Really? Yes. Aren’t you getting pregnant? No. But really, you are not pregnant? No. You still aren’t pregnant? No, I’m not (just to avoid any misunderstanding). So, when you finally ARE pregnant and you ask again, just say YES. You will completely mess with them by being totally honest.

13) DUE DATE – THE MOVIE

Never mind that there is already a movie called ‘Due Date’ – nobody remembers it anyway. Take a funny picture – for instance, you with the head in the toilet (ok, CLOSE to the toilet) and your partner laughing at you. Use your mad photoshop skills and turn it into a poster that says DUE DATE or KNOCKED UP or any relevant title, place your names in the starring roles and use the due date as a release date. Then, have it printed out and frame it. Hang it on the wall and wait.

14) I’M GROWING…TWO FEET

This is something you can prepare in advance, to build the anticipation. Let your girlfriends know that you spend a lot of money on a new pair of shoes and keep bragging about them. When they are finally at your house, tell them that you will go get them and…you come back with baby shoes! Not expensive, but priceless nonetheless.

15) IT’S GONNA BE A BUMPY RIDE

If you’re on a road trip, stop to take a picture next to a “Bump ahead” road sign, then use it as a cover for your Facebook. Some will congratulate you in a matter of seconds, while others will wonder why would you feel so proud about a picture taken in the middle of nowhere.

16) EVICTION NOTICE

If you became pregnant again soon after giving birth and your child is still sleeping in a crib, place a sign over the crib saying: “This perimeter needs to be evacuated by XX. New tenant expected to arrive”.

17) EX ONLY CHILD

Again, this is an idea for those who already have a child. Create a shirt for them which has ‘Only child’ written and crossed out, with the correction saying ‘Big brother’. Then, have him wear it when many relatives are gathered around and wait for the reaction. So cute!

18) PLUS SIZE

This idea is for you. If you feel comfortable revealing your size, have a shirt which has your size number written on it, then add a ‘+1’. Easy math.

19) MASTERCARD

Trip to Venice: 1000$. Hotel: 400$. A gondola trip: 100$ (yes, they are that expensive). Coming back home and finding out I’m pregnant: PRICELESS. Creating an ad-announcement alluding to the famous MasterCard commercial is quite an ingenious idea, especially if you manage to create a video with narration, for a better impact.

20) POP CULTURE #2

I dare you to find pregnancy reveal ideas more hilarious than this one! I double dare you! What makes it so hilarious is that you will laugh out loud no matter if they ‘get it’ or not. Call your family for an important public announcement. Have someone play “Ice, Ice Baby!” on his phone and grab two bags of ice. Ice? Check. Ice? Check. Ice, Ice….Get it? One bag of ice, another bag of ice and…? It’s even more hilarious if you start doing the Vanilla Ice dance and everyone looks at you trying to understand what the hell you are talking about.

21) WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS

Simple, stylish, cute. Take a picture of yourself outdoors, where your shadow is clearly visible. Then, add a ‘bumpy’ shadow in Photoshop and send it out on Facebook.

22) FRUITY METAPHORS

Take the smallest grape that you can find and place it on a table. Next to it, on the right, place a strawberry. Then a plum. Then a peach. Then an orange. Then a watermelon. If you can get them all during the season, it’s worth the effort. Wait for your unsuspecting husband to enter the kitchen and wait for him to ask you what’s all this about (this if he doesn’t instantly assume that you lost your marbles). Simply answer: this is the evolution of my belly during the course of 9 months.

23) PUZZLING PUZZLE

Order a custom puzzle which, when ready, says: “Congrats, you are going to be a dad!” and let your husband get crafty with it. As long as it doesn’t have 1000 pieces, in a matter of seconds, he will hug you without letting you go.

Did any of these ideas inspire you? How are you going to reveal your pregnancy?
